Nine Strange Beauty Tips

Nine Strange Beauty Tips

Egg white mask? Oatmeal face wash? Sounds crazy, doesn't it? Well, it isn't. If you have been finding that the products you buy at your local convenience store haven't been working for you, perhaps you should try looking a little closer to home. Like your kitchen. Here are nine food items you might never think to use as beauty products.

1. Cornstarch bath powder: Cornstarch is the kitchen version of baby powder so it can be used just the same. Add some dried herb leaves to the mix and put it in a food processor. Once its mixed evenly, filter out the large bits of left over leaf and put into a shake top container and you're ready for use!

2. Egg white mask: This one is as simple as just saving the leftovers from an omelet and turning it into your next facial. Just one egg white is enough to cover your entire face. Beat until smooth, let it dry completely, and then rinse off. Your skin will feel refreshed and tighten almost instantly.

3. Oil Moisturizer: Unbeknownst to most, olive oil actually works wonderfully as an every day lotion or even as massage oil. But be careful, use too much and you will end up smelling like your next meal at Olive Garden. But when used in the right amount, it works great. If you find that it isn't working for you, try almond oil, argan oil, or peanut oil.

4. Vinegar hair cleaner: If you trade your normal hair conditioner for vinegar just twice a month, you can improve the overall glow and shine of your hair and eliminate those nasty buildups. Don't waste your time with expensive dark vinegars, stay with white wine or cider. Make sure you only do it a couple times a month or else you could dry out your hair.

5. Baking Soda Teeth Cleaner: Combine a quarter teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and one teaspoon of baking soda and you have your homemade tooth care. It will give you that “fresh from the dentist” clean feeling. But be warned, you will not be experiencing as much minty freshness that you would if you were using regular toothpaste. So keeping some mouthwash handy is never a bad idea.

6. Honey and brown sugar scrub: Get rid of whatever synthetic body wash you have sitting in your shower and grab an empty jar lying around your house. Fill it two-thirds full with honey, add a scoop of brown sugar and one halved vanilla bean. Mix and use this as a body scrub and you will feel just as good as you smell.

7. Tea bag eye rejuvenator: If staying up late for those last minute study sessions is taking a toll on your looks, you should check this one out. Brewed black tea bags help reduce the puffiness your face often experiences from lack of sleep. Simply put them on your eyes and allow the tannins to do their job. Five minutes is all you need.

8. Lemon juice lightener: This one is a secret that goes way back, beach bums have been using it for years to add highlights to their hair. Add the juice of half a lemon and a handful of leave-in conditioner and comb it through your hair. Then just wash it out when you're done. But if you already have highlights you should probably sit this one out in risk of giving your hair that brassy look. You can also apply lemon juice directly to age spots to get rid of them. But lemon juice is very acidic, so people with sensitive skin should use this sparingly.

9. Coffee scrub and shine maker: Use your leftover coffee grounds and create a revitalize scrub. (Not recommended for people with sensitive skin.) You can also mix leftover brewed with your coffee grounds and mix it with your conditioner to add shine to your hair, especially brunettes.

Relatively easy and cheap.  Hopefully this advice will save you a trip to Wal-Mart.
